Recently, I was discussing with a business owner the issue that he had not completed a couple of tasks we had discussed and agreed on in a business development meeting the week before.
The time in any given day is one of the few things that is given to us equally.
It’s amazing how many people commit everything to memory or at best scraps of paper, or those coloured Post-it notes, which are often found on the desk, on the office notice board, in the briefcase, in the car or at home. Yet, at the same time the same person may get frustrated about not achieving their goals.
I suggested to this client that he may find it more efficient and effective to get himself a small notebook that could fit in his shirt or pants pocket, and to take this notebook with him throughout the day and to write down everything in it, including every meeting, every idea and every deadline.
Another winning idea I have for managing time effectively, is to create a daily list of priorities, such as A’s, B’s and C’s; that includes everything that needs to be done, whether it is personal or professional.
According to a recent survey, keeping a written record of your activities, ideas and priorities will give you a competitive advantage over 90 per cent of all other business owners, who only have things committed to memory or lying around on scraps of paper.
Time management and achieving what you most want in your life is a process of constantly asking what is more important and arranging priorities to reflect each choice.
