Welcome to Issue # 12, the
July - August 2002 edition of PINNACLE B-ezine. This month with
spring just around the corner, in this issue, I have focussed on
how to successfully recruit and retain your staff,
how to change your life with a few helpful tips on where
to start, and finally, if you are like a lot of business and sporting
professionals who don't at times have the drive and self-discipline
required to achieve what you really want in your working life....then
maybe you need a sounding board, a personal business trainer, or
a coach.
Read about what the business media
are saying about this relatively new business professional ...the
business coach. Also find our what our clients think of the
PINNACLE Business Coaching services! Want to know more? Read below
and if you are keen to make some positive changes in your life,
follow the prompts.
As always, thanks for your support

| Successful Recruitment,
Retainment and Coaching - A Case Study Earlier
this year, I was asked by the Managing Director (MD) of a regional
manufacturing company going through dramatic growth in its sales
and customer base, to improve their recruitment and in particular,
retainment of key staff. I found that staff were often hired
purely on their technical skills, with little consideration to their
personality or their interpersonal skills. Along with the Managing
Director I determined a list of job competencies, personality
traits and work styles for each key position, and we developed job
descriptions for each role.
Consequently, all potential employees
were screened against the position profile and a match determined
prior to a job offer.
To add to the objectivity of the
selection process and also to assist the manager and the new incumbent
to settle in and achieve high productivity levels as soon as possible,
I introduced the MD to the Thomas International suite of DiSC based
assessment tools.
Thomas International has worked with
organisations in the area of organisational, individual and team
development in some 50 countries for over thirty years. Their suite of behavioural and
aptitude assessment tools and consulting services are often viewed
as the complete 'from recruitment to retirement' development
solution.
Recently, the MD needed to replace
a key production manager, and when he had short-listed to the last
three candidates, he decided to DiSC Personality Profile these candidates.
This report provides the
full profile analysis for the individual. It describes the person’s
Preferred Workstyle Behaviour, how the person may modify
this behaviour for success in the workplace and how the person is
likely to respond in situations of extreme pressure. The
result for the MD was that the reports provided objective information,
to assist him to select the best person for this particular job.
In addition to the above I have also worked with
the MD and his small management team to develop their team work,
with an emphasis on trust and interpersonal communication skills.
As a result, all managers acknowledge these competencies are
integral to the on-going growth and success of the business.
Want to know more about DiSC Personality Profiling
and how it will assist you select and retain the best staff. Call

| Places to Start Turning
your Life Around Sometimes
the changes we would like to make in our lives are so far-reaching
that the mere thought of them overwhelms us.
We become frozen with fear and are
unable to make a start. Remember, though, that one thing leads to
another. If you start to change just one area of your life, the
next will be easier, and then the next and the next.
Here are ten possible places to start:
You as a person:
What do you like about yourself? Not like? How can you change it?
(Hint, if you're not sure what needs to be changed, take a look
at what you try to keep hidden from others.)
Your thinking:
Your unconscious takes orders from the programming you give it.
Do you limit yourself? Talk negatively to yourself? Find all the
reasons why not? Instead, become self-aware so that you catch your
negative self-messages and refuse them. Then turn them around and
make them into positives.
Attitude:
This is often an outward manifestation of our thinking. It is what
others see. Would you want to be on the receiving end of what you
offer to the rest of the world? If not, why should other people?
Perhaps, instead of waiting for the world to change, you could try
making the first move.
Associates:
Who do you spend your time with? Are they people you are proud to
know? Do you justify your choice of friends by praising how non-judgmental
they are, when actually they just have no standards? Are they people
you would be glad to see your family or your work associates spend
time with? If not, what are you getting out of the relationships?
Is it time for a change?
Spare time:
How do you spend it? Does it enrich you or numb you? Do you use
it to contribute or to consume? When did you last do something just
because doing it made you feel joyous, proud, excited, and just
plain GOOD?
Work:
Are you proud of what you do? Do you enjoy it? Or do you dread going
to work and spend the weekdays counting the time to the next weekend?
Surroundings:
Do your surroundings make you smile when you walk into a room? Do
they reflect how good you feel about yourself? Have you added flowers,
frills, colours, or whatever lifts your spirit when you look at
it? Or are you surrounded by piles and stacks of stuff just waiting
to be sorted, folded or put away? How much energy does just thinking
about this stuff take from you every day?

| Business
& Executive Coaching...what people are saying
"...[A coach is] part
advisor, part sounding board, part cheerleader, part manager and
part strategist." The Business Journal, April 10, 2000
"What's really driving the boom in coaching,
is this: as we move from 30 miles an hour to 70 to 120 to 180......as
we go from driving straight down the road to making right turns
and left turns to abandoning cars and getting on motorcycles...the
whole game changes, and a lot of people are trying to keep up, learn
how not fall off." John Kotter, Professor of Leadership,
Harvard Business School.

"Inside
every successful business person is an even more ambitious one trying
to get out. He or she just needs a little help." Someone To Watch Over You,
10/9/00, Australian Financial Review
